Story:
In a future society, everyone undergoes a mandatory surgery at age 16 that makes them "Pretty." This operation transforms individuals from "Uglies" into attractive, socially accepted members of society. The main character, Tally Youngblood, is eagerly awaiting her surgery to join her friends and experience the glamorous lifestyle.
However, Tally meets a girl named Shay, who questions the societal norms and refuses to undergo the surgery. Shay introduces Tally to a group of rebels living in the wild, who reject the idea of being transformed. As Tally navigates her friendship with Shay and her desire to become Pretty, she is torn between conforming to societal expectations and embracing her true self.
When Shay runs away to join the rebels, Tally is faced with a choice: to follow her friend and risk everything or to betray her in order to achieve her own dreams of beauty. Ultimately, Tally's journey leads her to uncover the dark truths behind the surgery and the real implications of a society obsessed with superficial beauty.
